St. Vladimir Institute

St Vladimir Institute marked Ontario’s 8th annual Ukrainian Heritage Day with a program that drew more than 250 guests. Highlights included a preview of the documentary Passion of Kurelek by film maker Halia Kuchmij and an art exhibit, In the Moment, by Toronto artist Zirka Radj-Hayes. As well, the Institute provided a series of presentations on Ukrainian Wedding Traditions in Canada.
Ukrainian Art Song Project
Toronto, Ontario
The UASP’s second Summer Institute brought together eight international professional/emerging classical vocal artists of Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian background in Toronto to develop their skills under the tutelage of internationally renowned opera singer Pavlo Hunka and a professional faculty. The week-long series of master classes at the Royal Conservatory of Music culminated in “Artists in Performance” recital.
Ukrainian Research & Documentation Centre

This grant supported creating a digital data base consisting of a collection over 1000 archival photographs to be placed in the Textual and Photographic Records page of the UCRDC website as a valuable historic resource for students, educators, academics and the public.

The Institute offers its Adult Ukrainian Language Classes, “Kameniari” cultural activities and youth cultural programming giving the community a chance to connect to their heritage and culture.
Blood of Our Soil
Punctuate! Theatre, Edmonton, Alberta
This grant contributed to the Toronto premiere of a new Ukrainian Canadian play “Blood of Our Soil” written, performed and co-produced by Lianna Makuch. This theatrical piece depicts the decades of struggle of the Ukrainian people through the eyes of a young Ukrainian Canadian woman who visits war-torn Eastern Ukraine while trying to uncover a deep secret her Baba took to her grave.
